    Signs of Water Heater Problems

    • No hot water
    • Inconsistent hot water
    • Sulfur smell from the tap
    • Popping noise coming from a tank style heater
    • Rusty water
    • Pooling water around the water heater

Obviously, you'll call us if you don't have hot water, or if it isn't consistently staying hot. But if you see any of the other signs, you should call us right away as well. A sulfur smell coming from your tap water is a sign that there is a bacterial colony growing in the sediment at the bottom of your tank. The bacteria isn't the problem, the sediment is. If you have a gas water heater or an electric model with the heating element near the bottom of the tank, the sediment could be reducing the ability of your hater to warm the water. It could also be a sign that your sacrificial anode is running low.

A popping noise coming from the tank is also a sign of sediment build up. Superheated bubbles in the sediment travel up into the water and cause an immediate boiling of the water and the subsequent popping sound. Rusty water is another bad sign. This usually indicates the failure of the sacrificial anode which has allowed the water to begin rusting the interior of the steel water heater. This could lead to rust through (which could be causing the pools of water beneath your tank.

In any case, if you experience any of these warning signs, call us immediately to get a water heater inspection and repair.
